FDI Annual Flow
While total Foreign Direct Investment has been steadily rising over the last 20 years, the flow between foreign investment in the States and US investments abroad has been dropping in recent years.
According to some sources, US FDI Annual Flow in 2021 looks to increase with the new Biden administration in power.
A little background:
From 2016 to 2017, the first year of the Trump administration, FDI annual flow dropped 42%, in part due to the tariffs and unilateral treaties enacted by that administration
Foreign investment annual flow in the United States fell by almost half, or 49 percent, in 2020 to $134 billion, according to figures released on Sunday by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development.
This is most likely due to COVID, combined with the ongoing tariffs.
So, while total Foreign Direct Investment has been steadily rising over the last 20 years, the flow between foreign investment in the States and US investments abroad has been dropping in recent years.
The new Biden Administration will re-open up doors abroad by bolstering multi-lateral trade agreements, renewing old alliances that were de-prioritized in the last regime, as well as removing many Trump era economic sanctions.
